SNAP Australia calls on Prime Minister Turnbull to immediately announce a thorough investigation of elite paedophile rings in Australia, looking at similar issues to the investigation already underway in the UK.

Senator Bill Heffernan yesterday revealed the existence of a police document listing 28 elite paedophiles, including a former Prime Minister. This comes as no surprise to many survivors of child sexual abuse.

The rape, torture, and murder of Australian kids by those who believe themselves above the law is the real terror threat which demands prompt and effective action above all other issues.

The Australian public should be outraged. The only thing more outrageous would be for this information to be brushed back under the carpet of privilege and entitlement to fester for decades more.

We should never forget we are talking about powerful men who rape children, and the type of society we would be part of if we don’t act to stop them.

Those on the list feel entitled to commit these and other atrocities, secure in the knowledge that damaged victims would never be believed, and their crimes would never be investigated.

Whether or not Senator Heffernan’s evidence, or other evidence of these crimes fit within terms of reference of an existing Royal Commission is not the issue.

The issue is whether the Australian political class is prepared to continue to condemn Australian children to being collateral damage in their efforts to protect their own against accountability for their crimes.

Many survivors of these crimes are prepared to speak out about what was done to them and by whom. Many have approached the Royal Commission but feel they are not being heard.

The full extent of these crimes is likely to reach well beyond the information in Senator Heffernan’s documents. It is vital the investigation is not compromised by arbitrary boundaries whose main purpose is to bury the truth.

It is already known that abusive religious and charitable institutions prostituted countless tiny children. The rapists who made use of this supply of defenceless prey included not just their own criminal colleagues, but also the rich and powerful.

Other networks of elite, protected paedophiles are loosely involved with institutions and their officials, such as using their facilities to commit and hide their crimes.

The Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests is the world’s oldest and largest peer support network for those abused by clergy and religious officials.
