Today I was delighted to represent the Premier Will Hodgman at the opening of the Port Sorell Men’s Shed.

This well-set and resourced facility will service the rapidly growing population of the region, providing a place for men to meet and connect.

Men’s Sheds are valuable social hubs, particularly in our regional areas, delivering many benefits to both their members and the wider community.

They’re a place where men can share issues they might be facing and get support and informal advice when they might be otherwise reluctant to seek it elsewhere.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is proud to support Tasmania’s Men’s Sheds, providing a total of $555,000 over three years from 2014-15 to 2016-17 to the sector.

The funding has enabled the employment of a part-time Executive Officer to support the work of the Tasmanian Men’s Shed Association and the creation of small grants program open to Sheds.

Under this program, a total of $126, 637 has already been provided to 35 Men’s Sheds initiatives–including one at the Port Sorell Men’s Shed – through the first two rounds of the TMSA Grants Program held in 2014-15.

I congratulate the teams at the Port Sorell Men’s Shed and TMSA for their hard work and effort in making this wonderful community asset a reality.
