Labor Leader Bryan Green today accused Adam Brooks of using the troubled relocation of Mineral Resources Tasmania as a smokescreen to cover-up the loss of 2000 mining jobs since the Liberal Government was elected.

“Labor has never opposed MRT having a stronger on the ground presence in Burnie because we are committed to ensuring staff are more mobile and better able to support our mining industry around Tasmania.” Mr Greens said.

“Mr Books stood by and did nothing when Caterpillar announced it was leaving Burnie and is now prepared to lose dozens of specialist MRT staff when our mining industry can least afford it.

“35 of the 42 MRT specialised staff will not move and the relocation is ridiculously underfunded.

“If Mr Brooks ran any of his companies like this he would have gone broke long ago.

“Mr Brooks should be trying to convince Will Hodgman to create jobs in the North-West by employing desperately needed child protection staff, biosecurity officers or replacing some to the teachers the Liberals have sacked from schools.”
