Shadow Minister for Aboriginal Affairs Madeleine Ogilvie said it was an honour to attend a deeply moving ceremony at Murrayfield today.

“Respected Aboriginal Elder Rodney Dillon spoke of both the Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal history at Murrayfield,” Ms Ogilvie said.

“The Weetapoona Aboriginal Corporation and the Indigenous Land Corporation have been brave and committed in developing Murrayfield farm.

“Culture, identity and history recognition is important for Aboriginal Tasmanians and we have seen a superb example of that today.

“I also congratulate the Weetapoona Aboriginal Corporation for signing a joint management agreement with Parks and Heritage, which sets a new benchmark for how we can work together.

“Today’s land hand-back underscores the reason I am pushing to amend the Tasmanian Constitution to recognise Tasmanian Aboriginals. We must embrace everyone in this journey and work together.”
