The Hodgman Liberal Government is a strong supporter of the arts in Tasmania.

Today we have announced funding of more than $2.3 million to support Tasmanian arts organisations for 2016 and beyond.

A total of 22 organisations will receive investment to develop and deliver arts activities for audiences across the state, as well as providing valuable professional development opportunities for Tasmanian artists.

Twelve organisations will receive multi-year investment as Partner Arts Organisations, with agreements ranging from two to four years. Long term investment will allow these organisations to provide secure employment for professional artists and arts workers, and ensure quality outcomes for audiences.

Organisations receiving investment through the Organisations Investment Program include:

• Big hART Inc. will receive investment over a four year period (2016 – 2019) to develop and deliver community arts projects on Tasmania’s north west coast. The organisation will work with professional artists, arts workers and members of regional communities to create works for presentation locally and nationally.
• Hobart theatre company Blue Cow Theatre Inc. has been awarded investment towards its annual program for 2016. The program will have a strong emphasis on Tasmanian content and provide valuable professional development opportunities for Tasmanian performers and playwrights.
• Design Tasmania, based in Launceston, will receive investment over a two year period towards a diverse program of exhibitions and events with a focus on raising the profile, and increasing the capacity, of the design industry in Tasmania.
• Island Magazine has been awarded investment over a four year period (2016 – 2019) to promote literature to a broad audience through the curation, publication and distribution of its quarterly literary magazine.
• Second Echo Ensemble, a performance group with a focus on integration and diversity, has been awarded investment towards presenting its most ambitious work – The Rite of Spring – in 2016.
