St Giles

The Hodgman Liberal Government welcomes the Commonwealth’s decision to extend funding for the highly valued disability support organisation St Giles.

This is another example of the Tasmanian Government working constructively with the Federal Government to deliver good outcomes for the State.

Along with clients’ families and staff of St Giles, the Tasmanian Government was concerned at the impact that the unsuccessful tender would have had on the delivery of services for children who need speech and behavioural support.

Human Services Minister Jacquie Petrusma personally raised these concerns with Commonwealth Ministers Scott Morrison and Mitch Fifield.

We are very pleased these concerns have been taken into account and new additional funding has been allocated to allow the two year extension to support a transition to the NDIS.

I particularly wish to thank Bass Liberal MHR Andrew Nikolic together with Senate Leader Eric Abetz who have also worked hard to secure this funding for the centre.
Michael Ferguson, Acting Minister for Human Services
