Resources Minister Paul Harriss continues to mislead Tasmanians as he desperately clings to his position in the Liberal Cabinet.
Labor Leader Bryan Green said Mr Harriss’ deceit is unravelling.
“Paul Harriss isn’t fooling anyone,” Mr Green said.
“Mr Harriss clearly wanted Tasmanians to believe that Sue Smith had changed her mind about Forestry Tasmania needing to be wound up.”
This is what he said on June 19: “Sue Smith supports the government’s position.”
The media was united in their interpretation of the comments:
“Tasmania’s Resources Minister says all members of his ministerial advisory council are now on board with keeping Forestry Tasmania,” The Mercury, June 20.
“Smith ‘changes mind’ over dismantling of Forestry Tasmania,” The Advocate, June 20.
“Senior forestry adviser Sue Smith has abandoned her views on the dismantling of Forestry Tasmania, the government says,” The Examiner, June 20.
Now Mr Harriss claims: “I never said that Mrs Smith had changed her personal views.”
“No one believes Mr Harriss anymore. His credibility is in tatters and that’s why he should either resign or be sacked by the Premier.
“The Minister’s ham-fisted handing of his advisory council comes as he’s sacking Forestry Tasmania workers and selling off its assets.
“In the other part of his portfolio, around 100 mining jobs are being lost each month and exploration activity has dried up.
“Or does Will Hodgman endorse the decisions Mr Harriss is making?”
