Note to Labor: Our fish farms lead the world
Labor’s support for a Greens-led Senate inquiry into the State’s salmon farming industry has become all the more embarrassing after another of our seafood companies achieved world-leading best practice certification.
Devonport-based Petuna Seafoods is to be congratulated for being the first in the world to receive best practice certification from the Global Aquaculture Association for not one but two fish species, being both its ocean trout and salmon operations.
This follows Tassal receiving similar accreditation for its fish farms last year from the Aquaculture Stewardship Council.
The international certifications these companies have achieved – together with the findings of Professor Colin Buxton’s independent review – make a mockery of the politically-motivated Senate inquiry.
The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to supporting our aquaculture industry and the many jobs it provides for Tasmanians.
By supporting the Greens in establishing this inquiry, Labor has shown once again that it cannot be trusted to stand up for local industry and local jobs.
This is an industry Tasmanians should be proud to call our own, but Labor and the Greens would rather play politics at its expense.
