Momentum building for Tasmanian AFL team
Labor Leader Bryan Green today welcomed growing support for a Tasmanian AFL team.
“Momentum is building for Tasmania to have its own team in what would make the AFL a truly national competition,” Mr Green said.
“We have had positive feedback from key football and media stakeholders to our plan for a roundtable discussion.
“A united effort is the key to pushing Tasmania’s case and Premier Will Hodgman needs to be part of those talks.
“The roundtable could be a watershed for an irresistible campaign for a Tasmanian team in the AFL.
“We have seen overwhelming support for a Tasmanian team in a recent nationwide survey and high profile football identities like former Geelong president Frank Costa are now getting on board.
“I share the great belief in Tasmania by all those getting behind our State.
“We should be thinking more seriously than ever before about how we develop our local talent and building on the infrastructure we already have in place.”
