The name Pellicano derives from the word pelican which has its symbolic reference to resurrection and this fits in with what many people say of Max Pellicano, so uncanny is his representation of Elvis that it is almost as if he is a reincarnation of the man himself.

Max is quick to say any similarities between he and Elvis (of which there are many) are due to his background in acting. Max has an acting degree from the University of California and is well skilled in his craft being able to create every nuance (think trembling lip) and how to use the stage without favouring one side over another but most of all the humour of Elvis himself. Max has studied DVDs both movies and concert performances intricately, so he is Elvis to the max-imum, in detail and accuracy.

Max is often asked to sing as Elvis at weddings and indeed he was once asked by a couple to bless their child, such is the aura surrounding Elvis. Max says he isn’t the Pope (regarding the requests for baby blessings) and in fact he stresses again that he is an actor playing the part of Elvis and is not channelling the entertainer’s spirit although he agrees that for many people Elvis will always be bigger than life.

One such place where Elvis is very much still larger than life is Malta, which became a common discussion point for myself and Max once he asked the origin of my surname and established it was Maltese.

Max has been to Valetta (Malta’s capital) and says one of his fan groups the Detroit Elvis club which has many members with Maltese background has often asked him to visit Malta and perform as Elvis. Max says he would love to if he might find a promoter there. So, if there is a Maltese promoter reading, please get in touch with Max!

Max seemed destined to play Elvis, continually being cast in 50’s musicals like Grease and Bye Bye Birdie, the latter which has a character based on Elvis.

A life changing moment occurred when Max’s Dad encouraged him to attend an interview for a sales rep position. It was while driving there Max heard on the radio of Elvis’s passing, later Max’s bands members said they believed they needed to do something to honour Elvis by continuing to play his music….and so began Max/s career as an Elvis tribute artist.

Max visits Australia regularly and has been welcomed and embraced by the Australian public including in Tasmania where there are two particular ladies and another gentleman who have forged great friendships with Max and catch up with him on his regular visits.

You can see Max at the Launceston Country Club on 18th September 8pm and at Wrest Point Entertainment Centre on 19th September at 8pm.
