Hodgman must engage on tax reform

Posted on

Labor Leader Bryan Green has called on Will Hodgman to show leadership and engage with the debate on tax reform.

“New South Wales Premier Mike Baird is right when he says something has to be done in the face of $80 billion worth of Liberal cuts to health and education,” Mr Green said.

“Tony Abbott’s cuts to our schools and hospitals are completely unsustainable. The Government needs to make its position clear but Peter Gutwein’s weak comments today only confuse the Government’s position further”.

“Unless Abbott’s funding gap is filled, Tasmania will not be in a position to offer quality health and education services in the future.

“Labor wants to see all sensible options explored on this, including possible changes to the Medicare levy.

“But Labor does not support changes to the GST beyond decreasing the threshold for good purchased online which would help support local businesses.”
