Premier Will Hodgman has failed to explain how the Liberals will create the 8000 jobs they claim they will in this year’s Budget.

“How can Mr Hodgman make this claim with a straight face when Treasury’s own forecasts show the unemployment rate will remain at 6.75 per cent during this Government’s term?” Mr Green said.

“Mr Hodgman today refused to produce any modelling to support his jobs target.

“Bizarrely, the Premier pointed to page 33 of the budget papers which only confirms that the unemployment rate will remain stagnant and the participation rate will actually fall over the forward estimates.

“This is evidence that Tasmanians cannot take the jobs target seriously.

“What we do know is that 2000 jobs have been lost in Tasmania since December last year.

“The Liberals have a shocking track record of creating false hope breaking its promises.

“What this Budget is really about is the political self interest of the Liberals who are setting aside hundreds of millions of dollars of the additional revenue to fight the next election.

“The Liberals are still failing to even acknowledge the damaging impact its Budget cuts last year had on jobs and frontline services.

“That’s why Labor will continue taking up the fight to what has quickly turned into an arrogant and overconfident Government.”
