Queen Victoria Home opens its doors for National Open Day
Queen Victoria Home at 13 Milford Street, Lindisfarne will join thousands of aged care services providers around the world in opening its doors to the public for the second annual Open Day on Friday 19 June 2015.
The day is intended as a celebration of aged care services and will promote the positive experiences of older Australians and the fantastic work achieved by the staff in organisations across the country. In 2015, Australia will again join organisations in the UK, Malta, South Africa and a number of other countries around the world in helping to shine a spotlight on the quality services provided to our older population.
Chief Executive Officer, Moira Laverty, said the Open Day was a great way to share the achievements of the organisation with the local community.
“We’re looking forward to meeting plenty of new faces and sharing our stories with the public,” Ms Laverty said.
“It’s a great opportunity for us to engage with our local community and give them an insight into how we support our residents and their families.”
“Queen Victoria Home will open its doors to the public from 1:00pm to 4:00pm on Friday 19 June. We will have information booths set up and our friendly staff will be able to answer any queries visitors may have about life in our home along with representatives from the Wicking Institute and the University of Tasmania. A scrumptious afternoon tea will be served from 2:30pm and tours will run every 30 minutes. There will be plenty of entertainment with the Paul Martin Quartet playing to delight the visitors,” Ms Laverty said.
Aged and Community Services Tasmania CEO Darren Mathewson said Open Day could help answer any questions that people in the community might have about aged services, including residential care, home care, independent living or the vast range of services, products and technologies that make the sector so diverse.
“There is no better way to access information than by visiting your local organisation and simply having a chat, touring the facilities and having questions answered by the people who know best – the staff on the ground,” he said.
“Organisations in our sector achieve incredible things every day, and our Open Day is about promoting and highlighting these positive stories and recognising the wonderful efforts and achievements of our aged services workforce and dedicated volunteers.”
