Resources Minister Paul Harriss admitted today that discussions with Mineral Resources Tasmania staff about relocating to Burnie haven’t even started.
Under questioning in Budget Estimates hearings, Mr Harriss also revealed that no MRT staff will be forced to move to Burnie.
“We could see the ludicrous situation where MRT is relocated to Burnie without any of its staff,” Mr Farrell said.
“Mr Harris said there were 42 MRT staff but that the relocation would not involve those working in the core sample library.
“The Government has already broken its explicit promise to relocate all the staff to Burnie.
“Mr Harriss says now that consultation with staff won’t even begin until the latter part of this year, almost two years after the Liberals came to office.
“Mr Harriss also admitted the move would incur significant costs but would not provide details.
“The Government began winding back its commitment to relocating MRT to Burnie almost immediately after the election and now it’s looking more and more like it will only be a token gesture.”
