Liberals admit breaking jobs promise to Launceston

Posted on

The Minister for State Growth Matthew Groom has admitted the Government will not honor its election promise to base 10 full time staff in the Coordindator General’s office in Launceston.

The Coordinator General himself said under questioning in today’s Budget Estimates hearings that he still does not have a single full time staff member in Launceston.

“The establishment of the Coordinator General’s office is a complete shambles,” Mr Green said.

“At best it now appears the Coordinator General’s office will have five staff based in Launceston, only half the number promised by the Liberals before the election, and none of them will be permanent.

“Matthew Groom clearly has no idea of how the office will operate and is making it up as he goes along.

“The Coordinator General revealed staff in Launceston will be employed on contracts ranging from six months and mostly for only two years.

“Mr Groom dodged questions and tried to squirm his way out of the Liberal’s commitment until he finally admitted the promise to base 10 staff in Launceston would not be kept.

“Despite all the hype Mr Groom created about appointing a Coordinator General, it is clear he never had any intention of honouring the promise.

“This is a matter of honesty and integrity and holding the Liberal Government to account.”
