Liberal double standards over pay rises for politicians

Posted on

Labor Leader Bryan Green today accused the Liberal State Government of arrogance and being out of touch with Tasmanians over moves likely to result in pay increases for politicians.

“The shocking double standards of the Liberals are on show for all to see,” Mr Green said.

“Will Hodgman tried to undermine the independence of the Industrial Commission with last year’s pay freeze legislation.

“Why did the Premier think it was alright to ride roughshod over the Industrial Commission to freeze public service salaries, yet he is now happy to accept its ruling on his own pay packet?

“What happens if the Industrial Commission awards a hefty pay increase for politicians?

“How would this be fair when the Liberal Government is cutting 1200 jobs and restricting public service pay increases to two per cent?

“If the Industrial Commission raises politicians pay by more than two per cent, will Will Hodgman then advocate for the two per cent state wages policy to be abandoned.

“These are serious questions Mr Hodgman needs to answer if he wants to keep faith with Tasmanians.”
