Legal Aid review completed
The independent administrative review into the Legal Aid Commission of Tasmania (LACT) has been released.
Both the review, undertaken by the Honourable Peter Evans, and the Chair and Director of the LACT’s response to the review are now publicly available.
The Department of Justice and the LACT will continue to work together to further examine all of the recommendations, and prepare an implementation plan for consideration. I will also meet with key stakeholders, including the Law Society and Community Legal Centres, to discuss the report once they have had time to consider it.
The LACT has always prided itself on innovating and continually improving the critical services that it provides, and this implementation plan will continue that work by considering suggestions for reform to ensure that it continues to provide efficient and effective legal assistance services to those who need them most.
