Lazy Liberals offer Legislative Council a week off

Posted on

The work of government in Tasmania has virtually ground to a halt under the Liberals.

The Government’s workload is so light that the Legislative Council has been offered a week off.

The Leader of Government Business in the Upper House, Vanessa Goodwin, sent a letter to MLCs suggesting a scheduled sitting week in August be scrapped.

Labor Leader Bryan Green said it’s a very embarrassing admission from the Liberal Government.

“The Government has run out of work to do and is ready to put its feet up for the winter,” Mr Green said.

“To find yourself in a situation where you’re telling Upper House MPs that you have no work for them do is very embarrassing.

“With all the promises the Liberals made to Tasmanians you would expect there to be legislation on the books.

“And it appears the Liberals have confirmed Cabinet will shut down over the break.

“It all adds up to a Government content to put its feet up.

“This is a lazy, arrogant government which is more interested in giving its members a pay rise than knuckling down to do work.”
