Will Hodgman is again on a collision course with his own workforce as he tries to set politicians apart from the rest of the public service when it comes to pay rises.

Labor firmly believes the pay of politicians should be linked with the pay of those in the public sector.

Labor Leader Bryan Green said the Premier had been caught out trying to hose down an inflammatory situation.

“The Premier’s Second Reading Speech was changed at the last minute in an attempt not to further anger public servants,” Mr Green said.

“The words “However, it is time to move forward” were removed from the speech due to their insensitive nature.

“The Premier thinks it’s time to move forward when it comes to how much politicians are paid but want public servants to keep exercising wage restraint.

“Will Hodgman has demonstrated shocking double standards.

“The ‘move forward’ line was obviously removed to avoid further upsetting an overworked and underappreciated public service.

“A reference to what politicians are “entitled” to was also removed from the final speech.

“It’s that sense of entitlement that has led to the Liberals prioritising the issue of giving themselves a pay rise.

“An 8% pay rise as the Industrial Commission has previously predicted would see the Premier’s pay balloon by around $25,000.

“An extraordinary situation to create at a time when you’re sacking 1200 workers.”
