Hodgman admits to ‘dodgy list’ of job promises

Posted on

Premier Will Hodgman today called his own promise to create 16,000 new jobs a “dodgy list of commitments”.

Labor Leader Bryan Green said the Premier had been damned by his own words.

“When confronted with a breakdown of the jobs the Liberals promised to create before the election, Mr Hodgman accused Labor of creating a dodgy list,” Mr Green said.

“The problem for Mr Hodgman is that these job numbers were in his own glossy election brochures.

When questioned over his jobs promise Mr Hodgman accused Labor in of:

“Confecting dishonestly a dodgy list of commitments” – Will Hodgman.

“This was no freudian slip; Mr Hodgman has been condemned by his own words.

“The Liberals’ refusal to allow the ‘dodgy’ list to be tabled in Parliament only confirms their guilt.

“What this clearly shows is that the Liberals’ election promises to create 16,000 jobs had no foundation in reality.

“It is typical of the deceit peddled by the Liberals in the lead up to the election.”

Mr Green said the admission cast serious doubt over the Liberal Party’s budget centerpiece to create 8000 jobs.

“Mr Hodgman has cut his jobs target in half but still refuses to provide any modelling to show how it can be achieved.

“Is it just another number plucked from thin air?

“Mr Hodgman is at odds with Treasury employment forecasts during the term of his government revealed in this year’s State Budget.

“To have any credibility, Mr Hodgman needs to explain exactly how his revised jobs target will be reached.”
