Dunalley Neighbourhood House Reopening
The Hodgman Liberal Government is a strong supporter of Neighbourhood Houses across Tasmania and the grassroots support they offer to some of the most vulnerable people in our communities.
Today I was very pleased to speak at the official reopening of the Dunalley Neighbourhood House which is at the very heart of the local community which was hit so hard by the 2013 bushfires.
The Government provided $100,000 for the Dunalley Neighbourhood House refurbishment.
The funding was used for upgrades including an extended kitchen, reconfiguration of the office and computer room and relocation of the laundry.
The enhancements to the house have led to increased popularity of the facility and a number of extra programs and courses being offered.
The Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal provided a further $15,000 for the redevelopment and expansion of the gardens damaged by the bushfires.
During and after the bushfires that devastated the region, the Dunalley Neighbourhood House under manager Yve Earnshaw, the staff, committee members and their many volunteers offered a gathering and debriefing space, and access to internet, toilet, shower, kitchen and laundry facilities.
The DunalleyTasman Neighbourhood House established in 1983, has operated from its current location for the past 28 years, providing valuable services and support to communities throughout the Forrestier and Tasman Peninsula area.
