Today’s opening of the Derwent Valley Men’s Shed is the culmination of more than 3 years’ hard work by the local community.

The Derwent Valley Men’s Shed has worked closely with the Derwent Valley Council and other local community groups since 2012 to establish the Shed as a space where local men can connect, share skills and participate in projects that contribute back to the community.

In recognition of the role Men’s Sheds play in the Tasmanian community, the Hodgman Liberal Government has allocated $555,000 over three years, from 2014-15 to 2016-17, to support the sustainable development of Men’s Sheds in Tasmania.

The Shed has been well supported by the wider Derwent Valley community through donations of equipment and building supplies needed to restore the Shed.

The Derwent Valley Men’s Shed completes woodwork and metalwork projects for the community and seeks mentoring opportunities and ways to support people with disabilities.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is a proud supporter of Men’s Sheds with more than 45 Sheds operating state-wide which play an important role in the promotion of men’s health and wellbeing and deliver real, practical benefits to the community.
