A critical link road between two of the State’s major highways has been added to the National Land Transport Network by the Australian Government, strengthening the case for further Federal funding in the future.

The Illawarra Main Road joins the Bass and Midland highways and is particularly important for those travelling between the North-West and the South.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to investing in the transport infrastructure we need to drive economic growth and create jobs.

This decision reflects the benefits of our cooperative work with the Australian Government and will leave Tasmania better placed to secure more funding in the future to upgrade this critical link in the Burnie-Hobart freight corridor.

It also follows years of lobbying, including by the RACT, and more recently a submission by my Department.

Under the $500 million Midland Highway 10-Year Action Plan, we are investing with the Australian Government in our road network around Perth.

The Perth southern link road, in particular, which is currently in the concept design phase, is a significant project under the action plan, and will improve traffic flow between the Bass and Midland highways.
