Boat Operator for Three Capes Track

Posted on

The Hodgman Liberal Government is pleased to announce Rob Pennicott has been identified as the preferred proponent for the boat-based aspect of the Three Capes Track walking experience.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to seeing the completion of the Three Capes Track and we are on course to open the Track in November this year. Up to 10,000 people a year are expected to walk the Track on completion, generating $8.2 million in economic activity and creating 310 new jobs.

Many of the great walking experiences in the world include a boat-based component. The boat based experience is integral to the success of the Three Capes Track and will dovetail with the truly world class experience that the Three Capes walk will provide.

While the final details are yet to be finalised, I have been advised that Mr Pennicott’s intention is to provide walkers departing for the Track with an introduction to the Port Arthur Historic Site from the water, as well as a professionally interpreted ‘adventure’ tour of the broader Port Arthur bay, including views from the water of the sea cliffs, Cape Pillar and Tasman Island that those individuals are to traverse and view on foot over the following 4 days and 3 nights.

I have absolutely no doubt that the wealth of experience and professionalism that Mr Pennicott will bring will enhance the overall uniqueness and excellence of the Three Capes walking experience.

The iconic Tasman National Park offers an abundance of truly amazing scenery. With its dramatic sea cliffs among the highest and most spectacular in Australia, the Three Capes walking experience will have immense pulling power in the international tourism market and it will be Australia’s premiere coastal bushwalking experience.

The Hodgman Liberal Government has a target to grow Tasmania’s tourism industry to 1.5 million visitors per year by 2020.

Our commitment to the completion of the Three Capes Track is testament to our resolve to unlock the potential of our Parks and World Heritage area and to capitalise on the competitive advantage that our natural assets have to offer for all Tasmanians.

This Government is committed to stimulating growth in regional economies in Tasmania through support of small business and promotion of tourism opportunities. Our commitment to the completion of the Three Capes Track will deliver significant regional and State-wide benefits to the tourism and hospitality sectors,

I congratulate Mr Pennicott and I truly look forward to working together with him to realise the full potential of the Three Capes Track walking experience.
Matthew Groom, Minister for Environment, Parks and Heritage
