My colleagues and I are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Barry Jarvis.
Barry was a hard-working, charismatic and well-liked mayor, who served his community with distinction.
Barry was a tireless advocate for local government and passionate about the issues that affected the people of his municipality and also the State more broadly. He was a strong leader of the Local Government Association of Tasmania and his leadership will be sorely missed.
Barry was a Liberal candidate for Bass at the last State election and polled strongly, reflecting the high-regard that he was held in by the community.
Our thoughts and prayers are will Barry’s family at this difficult time.
Peter Gutwein, Minister for Planning and Local Government
