A STATEMENT ON ALLEGED SPYING ON HANSON-YOUNG

Posted on

The allegation that Wilson Security spied on Senator Sarah Hanson-Young is deeply troubling and must be investigated immediately by the AFP.

To spy on a Senator is obviously wrong on every level, including legally seeing as it’s a serious offence to interfere in the duties of a Federal Parliamentarian.

If this alleged spying on Senator Hanson-Young is the work of rogue Wilson employees then they should be sacked and legal proceedings initiated against them.

If it’s systemic misbehaviour then the contract with Wilson should be terminated, any losses to the Commonwealth recouped and legal proceedings initiated against the ring-leaders.

I also want to know if anyone in the Government or Immigration Department was in on this because such serious misconduct by Wilson would suggest they thought they had top-cover.

If there was in fact any sort of official collusion, imprimatur or awareness, then action must be taken against those involved. If a Minister of the Crown was involved in any way whatsoever then he or she must resign immediately.

This episode reminds us again of just how wrong mandatory detention and offshore processing is, as is the practice of outsourcing the running of such centres to non-government profit-driven enterprises.
