Treasury pours cold water on dodgy promise of 8000 jobs
Treasury has poured cold water on the Liberal Government’s promise to create 8000 jobs.
Labor Shadow Treasurer Scott Bacon said the jobs promise was not supported by Treasury’s employment forecasts.
“The Budget papers show that the unemployment rate will remain flat at around 7 per cent across the forward estimates,” Mr Bacon said.
“Not even Treasury believes that the Liberals are going to create 8000 jobs.
“Mr Hodgman and Mr Gutwein need to explain what evidence they are using to support their claims.
Mr Bacon said the Budget papers show exports have slowed, with little prospect of new jobs being created in mining and forestry.
“To the contrary, more than 1500 jobs have already been lost in the mining industry, manufacturing jobs are disappearing and the Liberals have abandoned the forest industry.”
