Tasmanian kids get REDDY to help save babies lives

Red Nose Day 26 June 2015

Tasmanian Schools and Child Care Centres are joining in the fun this Red Nose Day to raise funds for charity SIDS and Kids.

Nine children under the age of four die suddenly and unexpectedly every day in Australia from causes including sleeping accidents, drowning, motor vehicle accidents, sudden onset illness, SIDS and stillbirth.

Now in its 28th year, funds raised on Red Nose Day enable SIDS and Kids to save the lives of babies and children during pregnancy, birth, infancy and childhood and to support bereaved families.

This year schools are being encouraged to show their support for Red Nose Day by signing up to the new schools program. The program provides information for teachers to share with students on the cause behind Red Nose Day and importance of getting involved. It also includes fun educational activities such as where children can become a scientist for a day, a colouring competition and a Wiggles DVD. Schools are encouraged to fundraise by ordering Red Noses and wristbands, hold a cake stall, casual day or a teacher baby photo competition. Schools can sign up for the program online with hundreds already registered.

2015 also sees the opportunity for Child Care Centres and Kindergartens to sign up to host their own Red Nose Day event, through the introduction of the Little Rockers Red Nose Disco. A first of its kind, this fundraising event enables Child Care Centres to not only put on their dancing shoes, but their red noses as well and host their own discos event within their centre on Red Nose Day.
The event will run from 10 – 11am on the 26th June with Little Rockers Radio providing Child Care Centres with a fun-filled hour of children’s dance music for the little red nosed rockers to dance their hearts out to.
SIDS and Kids Australia CEO Associate Professor Leanne Raven is delighted to be bringing Red Noses into Schools and onto the noses of little children;
“It’s fantastic to have our littlest members of the community joining in the fun this year to support Red Nose Day. Babies and children are who SIDS and Kids is all about, so it great to have them and their families supporting us. We expect the kids to have a lot of fun.”
