Peter Gutwein’s deception over port charges exposed
Treasurer Peter Gutwein has deceived Tasmanian exporters by falsely claiming he struck a deal with the Victorian Government over fees at the Melbourne port.
“Peter Gutwein has clearly misled the media by concocting a story that the issue had been resolved,” Mr Green said.
“Mr Gutwein said concerns over increases in port fees would be addressed in legislation by the Victorian Government.
“The Legislation was tabled in the Victorian Parliament yesterday and did not include a single mention of Tasmania.
“This makes a lie of what Mr Gutwein has told the media.
“How can Mr Gutwein reconcile his statements that this issue has been resolved with Rene Hidding’s press release yesterday which stated:
“It is crucial that negotiations between the port and our shippers are restarted and thyat they reach an acceptable commercial outcome as soon as possible. This remains a key concern.” Rene Hidding, May 27.
“Mr Gutwein has deliberately deceived exporters and knowingly misled the media.
“Tasmanian Labor has secured agreement from the Victorian Government to receive a delegation of Tasmanian shippers to discuss these issues.
“This practical step forward stands in stark contrast to the lies and deception of the State Liberal Government.”
