Perth Primary School principal Lee Craw is with Assistant Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Jamie Briggs and Federal MP Eric Hutchinson.

THE PERTH Primary School community has welcomed news this morning of funding for much-needed work on the Fore Street entrance to its early childhood precinct.

Principal Lee Craw described the $38,500 from the Federal Government as “fantastic news.’’

The Federal money will go with $17,500 from the Northern Midlands Council to complete the $56,000 project to improve the safety of the cul-de-sac drop-off and pick-up point for all the school’s early childhood students.

“Parents will be really relieved in terms of the safety issues that this area has posed for so long,’’ Mrs Craw said.

Parents dropping off their children to school this morning agreed.

One mother described the funding news as “awesome.’’

Federal Lyons MP Eric Hutchinson said that the Black Spot funding program, which aimed to deliver safer roads from Tasmania through targeted upgrades, was a great problem solver for projects like the Perth School cul-de-sac.

Assistant Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Jamie Briggs was also at Perth School this morning to see for himself how the money would be spent.

The Perth project is one of 35 Black Spot areas across Tasmania to be worked on with $4.37 million funding announced by Mr Briggs.

“Mr Briggs said that the Tasmanian funding was part of the Federal Government’s record commitment of $500 million which includes $200 million to fast-track investment in world-class infrastructure across the country.

“These extra projects are expected to save an additional three lives and prevent 153 injury crashes over 10 years and deliver economic dividends of around $18 million.
