One Night Only – Beyond the centenary of Anzac Day

Posted on

A moving visual composition by prominent Tasmanian video artist Raef Sawford will take place at the Rosny Farm to enable a new way for people to contemplate the Centenary of Anzac.

For one night only, on Tuesday 12 May, Sawford is projecting a custom composition of works illuminating the personal experiences of Tasmanians who served in the Great War. The Rosny Farm is hosting this special event in conjunction with Centenary of ANZAC: Service at Home and Abroad, which will also be open for a late night viewing.

Accompanied by classical ensemble Strings on Fire, these are close-to-home stories that parallel the artefacts on display in the exhibition. Alderman Doug Chipman, the Mayor of Clarence said that it was a great honour to commemorate the fallen on Anzac Day and it was also important to explore the significance of this period as a corner stone of Australian and Tasmanian identity.

“This special event takes us beyond loss and survival, into the elements that served to solidify and shape our community,” Mayor Chipman said.

Raef Sawford’s ANZACs is presented in Partnership with the Tasmanian Heritage Festival as part of Lighting Up Our Local Heroes. Refreshments on the evening will be derived from ration recipes by the Second Battalion at Ypres and a cash bar will be available.
