Looking for a new career? You may find yourself in clover at Agfest
The latest pasture varieties collected from all over the world and selected for their suitability in Tasmanian conditions are on display at Agfest.
The Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture (TIA), a joint venture between the University of Tasmania and the Tasmanian Government, is undertaking pasture breeding and development with new varieties of cocksfoot and clovers that offer high productivity, all-year growth, improved drought resistance and frost resistance, and are highly palatable.
Tony Butler, who works in TIA’s Extensive Agriculture Centre, will be showing visitors a selection of newly released varieties and some varieties that are yet to be released.
Tony will deliver a talk today on technology in plant breeding and then also speak on Saturday about career opportunities in agriculture as part of the University of Tasmania’s public talks program at Agfest.
TIA’s display of new pasture varieties is spread between the University exhibit at site 503 and TIA’s display at site 813/815 Eighth Avenue.
