Local Residents Mobilise to Action against CommBank
Dozens of Hobart residents call on CommBank to refuse funding for climate and reef wrecking coal proposals
Hobart. Concerned residents and local bank customers will converge on Elizabeth Street Hobart CBD CommBank to demand they rule out financing for the Galilee Basin coal mining project and the associated Abbot Point coal port expansion on the Great Barrier Reef. The project poses significant threats to the Reef, and the climate.
The action will include a public gathering, a procession, closure of CommBank accounts, and public speakers, including Stuart Barry of TasEthical.
This event is in coordination with over 100 community actions to take place at CommBank branches across Australia and around the world from 19-23 May.
