The 2015-16 State Budget will confirm the Tasmanian Liberal Government’s commitment to help revitalise Devonport and the North-West Coast through the Living City Master Plan, with a significant down payment to progress works.

Living City will pave the way for more than $250 million worth of construction work, create more than 600 jobs in the construction phase, and support more than 1,100 ongoing jobs once the project is complete.

“The Government has already provided significant support to the Living City project, including $40,000 to co-fund a study into the economic impact of the project,” the Premier Will Hodgman said.

“The 2015-16 Budget will include additional funds, available immediately, to progress planning and scoping works for a new LINC and Court facility, and initial significant capital funds which will be made available during Phase 1 of the Project.

“The Government’s long-term plan for Tasmania is focussed on pursuing investment opportunities and creating jobs, and our contribution to the Living City Master Plan is a demonstration of this commitment.”

“We are working closely with the council to fulfil our existing $15 million election commitment for the transfer of two Government-owned sites, the Magistrates Court and LINC, to consolidate land for retail development in the CBD,” the Deputy Premier Jeremy Rockliff said.

“Plans for the new LINC site in the multi-purpose building are already being drawn up as we move towards the start of Phase 1 next year. The transfer of the two Government-owned sites represents a $15 million commitment from the Hodgman Liberal Government to Living City and we are pleased to build on that in the 2015-16 Budget, in recognition of the importance of this project.”

“The Coordinator General’s Office will be tasked with making the finer detail arrangements with the Council to ensure we meet our commitment.”
