Liberals trying to justify Coordinator General’s office

Posted on

Labor Leader Bryan Green today called for the Coordinator General’s office in Launceston to be properly resourced if it is to oversee the State Government’s promised infrastructure spend in the North.

“Most of the staff are in fact in Hobart and until very recently the so-called office in Launceston didn’t even have its own telephone number,” Mr Green said.

“The Coordinator General’s office has turned out to be a half baked election promise.

“Now Peter Gutwein plans to give the Coordinator General responsibility for rolling out infrastructure spending, he should at the very least ensure the office is adequately resourced.

“It seems Mr Gutwein is trying to give the impression it is a fully fledged office and is actually achieving something.

“The office was established to attract national and international investment to Tasmania, not to ride on the back of Government funding announcements.

“The Coordinator General’s office has not delivered any private investment or created a single job in Tasmania. That’s what it was set up to do.

“Mr Gutwein has handballed responsibility to the Coordinator General for infrastructure spending because he needs to justify the existence of the office.”
