Kim Booth’s Resignation

Nick McKim and Cassy O’Connor today paid tribute to Kim Booth’s long public career, and acknowledged his desire to put the needs of his family first.

“We have spoken to Kim today and wished him all the best for the future, and thanked him for his contribution to the Greens and public life in Tasmania over many years.”

“Kim will be remembered as someone who stood up strongly for the things he believed in, particularly his tireless campaigns against a pulp mill in the Tamar Valley and the woodchipping of Tasmania’s native forests.”

“While politics can be all-consuming, there are of course other important things in life, such as family. We respect Kim’s desire to place the needs of his family first, and wish him all the best wherever his life now leads him.”

“He has represented the Greens and the people of Bass strongly for thirteen years in the Parliament of Tasmania, and can justifiably look back on his time in parliament with pride.”

Mr McKim and Ms O’Connor said that the choice of the next Leader of the Tasmanian Greens would be a matter for the new Party Room once the countback for Mr Booth’s seat has been completed by the Tasmanian Electoral Commission.

“As we temporarily have just two MPs, we have decided to wait until the countback is complete before we address the question of the next Leader of the Greens MPs.”

Mr McKim and Ms O’Connor will not be commenting publicly further today.
