Inspiring excellence from the top in education
Great leadership inspires excellence across our education system, and that’s why 20 school principals will be offered an opportunity to gain an Honours degree through the Hodgman Liberal Government’s Developing our Workforce Strategy.
The new School Leadership Development Initiative is the penultimate initiative to be introduced through the $4.2 million strategy.
The initiative offers school principals a chance to earn a Bachelor of Education with Professional Honours to foster excellence across our schools.
Principals inspire teachers and students through their everyday leadership actions and choices.
The School Leadership Development Initiative will support principals to grow as leaders, with a focus on school and executive leadership, curriculum leadership and school management, promoting a culture of excellence from the top.
As many as 20 principals can study through the Department’s Professional Learning Institute and the University of Tasmania, to gain their Professional Honours with a clear pathway to a Masters qualification down the track.
Their course fees will be paid for and flexible study time will be provided over the duration of the course of about 18 to 24 months.
The Hodgman Liberal Government has a long-term plan to lift education standards and educational outcomes in Tasmania.
The Developing our Workforce Strategy, undertaken as a partnership project between the State Government and University of Tasmania through the Underwood Centre of Educational Attainment, is a great step to improving education in Tasmania.
The strategy provides $4.2 million as part of the Better Schools Tasmania Agreement (Gonski) to fund additional opportunities for teachers and education staff to develop their skills, to ensure we have the best and brightest minds inspiring our students. This funding has always been earmarked for these projects; it was never destined for school classrooms.
By developing and supporting Tasmania’s education workforce we are investing in the future of Tasmania as a whole, and that includes those that have the important job of leading our schools.
