“Any economist could tell you, a two-course meal at the Astor with selected beverages included for $70 is a great deal, throw in the Executive Director of the Australia Institute as a dinner speaker and you have a deal that is almost too good to be true*.
Some may remember Dr Richard Denniss’s book ‘Affluenza: When Too Much is Never Enough’ co-written with Clive Hamilton which chronicled how a focus on over-consumption and keeping up with the Jones’s was leading to unhappiness, stress and depression.
Did we face a health crisis, or a flat-screen TV crisis?
Dr Denniss will be speaking at the dinner on the recent Australian Government’s Intergenerational Report (remember the ads with Dr Karl Kruszelnicki in the polka dot shirt?), its relevance for Tasmania, including federal financing arrangements.
Fine food, wine, conversation and thought provoking material – who said economists don’t know how to have fun – but even better, you don’t have to be an economist to come!
Please join us Friday 12 June 2015, at the Astor Grill, Hobart 6pm for a 6.30pm start.
Booking via eventbrite are essential: You can BOOK HERE
* Almost too good to be true because this is the Economic Society’s AGM, which means we both subsidise the event, but also include an accelerated annual meeting (blink and you’ll miss it!)
** Organise a table of 8 and you can also access the Members price of $60, you can also become a member of the society at https://esacentral.org.au/tas/membership-2/become-a-member/
