Doubts still linger over Mersey Hospital

Posted on

Labor Leader Bryan Green today welcomed Federal funding of the Mersey Community Hospital but said serious doubts still linger over its long term future.

“The community and staff of the Mersey still don’t know what level of services will be provided and whether that will go beyond two years,” Mr Green said.

“The in principle funding agreement provides a short-term political fix for the Abbott Government.

“It is an obvious attempt to sand-bag Brett Whiteley’s seat in the very likely event of an early federal election.

“While ever the future of the Mersey remains firmly in the political cycle there will be doubts about its long term future.

“With only two years breathing space for the hospital, the onus is now on the State Liberal Government to make provision in its budget for funding beyond that period.”
