Tasmania is heading in the right direction and we need to build on that momentum to drive economic growth and create jobs.
Information and Communication Technology is a vital industry in Tasmania with massive growth potential and we need to build on Tasmania’s exceptional base of talented and skilled ICT people to meet future demand.
That’s why the Hodgman Liberal Government is proud to announce its partnership with Code Club, an initiative to give Tasmanian students real skills for real jobs in our ICT sector.
Coding has become a highly sought-after skill for businesses and computer programming will be an increasingly fundamental literacy for future employment.
The rollout of Code Club in Tasmania, which is aiming to reach every primary school in the state, is a very exciting opportunity for Tasmanian students to learn these skills at an early age.
Code Club Australia is a nationwide network of free, volunteer-led, after-school coding clubs for children aged 9-11. It is a not-for-profit organisation that offers both curriculum and teacher training to educators, then encourages the formation of Code Clubs within schools.
We welcome Code Club Australia’s commitment to become established across Tasmania. This is the first time Code Club has offered such an opportunity on such a scale and it is exciting that Tasmania is in a position to make the most of this opportunity.
The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to growing a connected and empowered economy. We’ve already launched the ICT Workforce Development Plan to identify what actions are needed to grow our ICT workforce and today’s partnership with Code Club is another step in the right direction.
