Calls for Adam Brooks to be stood down
Labor Leader Bryan Green today called on Parliamentary Secretary Adam Brooks to be stood down until he clears the air over his behaviour on the Premier’s recent trade mission to China.
“Mr Brooks is still offering no explanation for missing the start of a dinner with the Chinese President, other than saying he was disappointed at letting the Premier down,” Mr Green said.
“Why did Mr Brooks feel it was necessary to provide an apology to the Premier if his reason for missing the start of the President’s function was legitimate?
“Mr Hodgman says he made his disapproval known to Mr Brooks for ‘missing the bus’, but it appears there is more to this story than either party is letting on.
“This was a function with one of the most powerful people in the world, not a primary school excursion. Mr Brooks’s actions have consequences for our critical relationship with China and the repercussions need to be adequate.
“Adam Brooks must provide a full explanation as to why he was late to the most important function on the Asian Trade Mission.
“Mr Brooks has caused embarrassment to Tasmania at the highest level, and if he can’t provide a public explanation for his behaviour he should resign.”
