Budget lacks vision and compassion
Peter Gutwein’s second Budget is designed to get the Liberal Party to the next election and not a step further.
Shadow Treasurer said the 2015/16 Budget is full of short term good news announcements but is deficient in compassion.
“Blessed with newly inherited wealth, the Government has opted for short term investments over bold reform or repair of essential services.
“The damage inflicted on service delivery by last year’s Budget will only get worse, with cuts left untouched across the public sector.
“The Treasurer is extending an invitation to interstate workers in hi-vis but neglecting Tasmanians doing it tough.
“There’s no relief for vulnerable Tasmanians waiting for affordable housing.
“And there’s a serious lack of urgency when it comes to addressing growing waiting lists for surgery in our public hospitals.
“The Government is right to invest in our economic strengths like tourism and agriculture but it has to be done in conjunction with compassionate policies for Tasmanians needing assistance.”
