Shadow Attorney-General Lara Giddings said independent agencies that provide a check and balance over Government actions have had their budgets cut in this year’s state budget.
“Funding to the Integrity Commission, the Office of the Anti-Discrimination Commissioner and the Ombudsman’s office has been cut over the forward estimates.
“The Hodgman Liberal Government has taken Tasmania backwards when it comes to openness and transparency.
“Today’s budget cuts funding to the independent agencies tasked with keeping a check and balance on government.
This will place more pressure on services that provide a voice for vulnerable Tasmanians.
“Pressure is also being added to an already overburdened Magistrates Court with their budget also being further cut across the forward estimates.”
