Blundstone Arena in Bellerive hosts World Games Day 2015
Get ready for colour, sound, sights, action, food, dancing and fun throughout Blundstone Arena, Bellerive when World Games Day unfolds on Sunday, 24 May.
World Games Day is a free family friendly event that provides an opportunity for cross cultural sharing, celebration and connection for the whole community – plus it’s a great opportunity to walk out onto the field that has hosted the greats of international cricket and the AFL.
Alderman Doug Chipman said he was excited that World Games Day the Arena will host a range of ‘come and try’ activities, a performance area, a soccer tournament and an international food court.
“This type of community event is a first for this international sporting venue, and it’s great that 10 soccer teams will vie for the Community World Cup trophy as part of the day,” Mayor Chipman says.
“The teams will converge on two half pitches for a series of short, sharp games.”
There’ll be a lot more to entertain with exhibits and dance performances from around the world including the Bhangra and Bollywood Dancers, Samurai Ninja Martial Arts, latin dancers Casa Cubano and Tango Milonguero.
Try your hand at a range of familiar and weird and wonderful games from netball and cricket to nalakatook and hunka house. The international food court in the new concourse will serve up tastes of the world and a range of great music will add to the atmosphere.
World Games Day links with the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development that is held each year on 21 May and is presented by Clarence City Council.
