AUSSIE BUSINESSES SHOW SUPPORT FOR MARRIAGE EQUALITY
Marriage equality advocates have launched a push to gather corporate support with a business breakfast in Sydney this morning.
180 business people from 60 different national and international companies attended the event that heard from Alan Joyce, CEO of Qantas, Ann Sherry, CEO of Carnival Australia, Michael Ebeid, CEO of SBS and Lisa Annese, CEO of the Diversity Council of Australia.
Australian Marriage Equality national director, Rodney Croome, told the meeting that corporate support is crucial to achieving marriage equality.
“The Australian business sector has a lot to gain from marriage equality and can play a crucial role in achieving it.”
“Speakers at today’s breakfast outlined a number of different ways businesses can support marriage equality including making their views known to MPs, recognising the overseas same-sex marriages of their employees and providing support to the campaign.”
So far almost 40 companies have signed a letter of support for marriage equality addressed to the federal government. The current list of companies is available here.
