ACL welcomes certificates for babies lost in early pregnancy

Posted on

The Australian Christian Lobby today welcomed news the Tasmanian Government will establish a process to allow parents who have experienced the loss of a baby in early pregnancy to apply for a certificate through the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages.

ACL Tasmanian Director Mark Brown, welcomed the initiative. “Acknowledging these short lives is a tangible and appropriate way of remembering these children and aiding parents through the grieving process.

“Currently in Tasmania there is no such recognition given to a baby that dies before 20 weeks gestation or weighs less than 400 grams.

“This is a common-sense initiative that brings Tasmania into alignment with other states and territories that have similar schemes in place.

“ACL congratulates the government for taking this common sense and compassionate stance.”
