Mersey Community Care Social Bus Trips are a hit with Clients
The Mersey Community Care Social Bus Trips have expanded from an all-day bus trip every Friday, to include an additional half-day social bus trip every Thursday.
Transport Coordinator Indea Leary said “The bus trips provide an opportunity for clients to have access to a service that connects them with the community, while the bus itinerary provides a wide range of destinations to choose from”.
Ms Leary went onto say “The great thing about our social bus trips is the door to door service. Clients are picked up from their home and dropped back at their home at the end of the day”. Ms Leary also said “The Friday bus trips always include a designated venue for clients to enjoy a nice lunch and the Thursday bus trips include a morning tea destination”.
Ms Leary is also responsible for tasking volunteers to drive the buses and assist on the bus and said “The social bus trips are very popular amongst volunteers as well as clients and the volunteers really enjoy spending the day with our clients and providing them with support when needed”.
Sarah Scott the Social Support Coordinator said “The social bus trips are very important to clients, as it may be the only social outing that they have all week”. Ms Scott also said “The bus trips are becoming very popular and we work hard to find new and interesting destinations and update the bus itinerary regularly to provide clients with variety and choice”.
Ms Scott went on to say the destination for the Social Bust Trip on Friday 10 of April was the Raspberry Farm at Christmas Hills, however, the clients had a treat by diverting through Chudleigh for morning tea”. Ms Scott said the photos taken on the day show the enjoyment clients gain from the bus trips and would encourage other frail older people or younger disabled people who would enjoy social bus trips or who would simply like more information to contact Mersey Community Care on 6424 8883.
The next half-day Social Bus trip is to The Lime Tree Café in Spreyton on Thursday 23 April for morning tea and on Friday the 24 April our clients will be enjoying lunch at The Beach Hut in Ulverstone.
