Paul Harris fails to deliver on forestry promises

Posted on

The future export of woodchips from southern Tasmanian forests is still up in the air despite the Liberal Government’s promise of a solution.

“Paul Harris has gone from telling everyone he had the solution to now not even having a preferred option,” Labor Leader Bryan Green said.

“Mr Harriss has again misled Tasmanians and the forest industry by not delivering on what he promised.

“More than six months ago the Government supported Macquarie Wharf as the site for an export woodchip facility.

In October last year, Mr Harris described exports from the wharf as the “only potentially viable option”

“Now the Minister has quietly backflipped and handed the problem to private enterprise because he is too weak to make a decision.

“Mr Harriss must release the feasibility study he commissioned last year into the Macquarie Wharf option.

“This Minister is all talk but as we’ve seen this week he doesn’t have the courage of his so-called convictions.

“Mr Harris has betrayed workers at Forestry Tasmania who will now lose their jobs because of him.

“He led workers to believe their jobs would be safe because he promised to expand the forest industry to allow FT to trade its way out of financial difficulty.

“The fact is Mr Harriss has not delivered on anything he promised. He is not fit to be a Minister and he should resign,
