New Recruits to Help Rebuild Police

Posted on

The Hodgman Liberal Government is getting on with the job of rebuilding Tasmania Police, as promised.

Today’s induction of the first new recruit course of 2015 is another step forward in achieving our plan of restoring the number of police officers to 1228, the staffing level before the previous Labor-Green government’s cuts.

Twenty-two recruits were sworn in at the Police Academy at Rokeby today to begin a demanding training course that will equip them for careers with Tasmania Police.

Two of the recruits are experienced police officers who served with Western Australia Police and South Australia Police respectively and will undertake accelerated training before hitting the beat.

The diverse backgrounds and experiences of all our new recruits will bring value to Tasmania Police and to the wider community.

We currently have 1150 full-time equivalent sworn police officers, an increase of 30 on the establishment level when we came into government.

When this course graduates later in the year we will continue to move closer to achieving our target.
