Potential developers of tourism projects in Tasmania’s national parks are walking away because of bureaucratic red tape.

“This makes a joke of the Liberals’ promise to create a streamlined process for tourism operators,” Mr Green said.

“A number of proponents who have reached the Expression of Interest stage to undertake projects in national parks now want to back out.

“The Minister for State Growth, Matthew Groom, today evaded questions over concerns that red tape is jeopardising these potential investments.

“Mr Groom has shot himself in the foot and tied tourism operators up in a massive bureaucratic mess.

“They would prefer the old system established under Labor because the current process is so cumbersome and so bogged down in red tape it’s not worth their effort.

“Mr Groom should be upfront and transparent about the EOI process and address the concerns of proponents.

“There is little if any evidence of the Liberals cutting red tape as they promised with such gusto prior to the election.

“It is a shame the Government it is not showing the same enthusiasm to cut red tape as it has in cutting jobs and front line community services.”
